Product Development Engineer

Location:  Columbus, US

The Hirschvogel Automotive Group is among the most successful manufacturers of forged steel and aluminum parts. More than 6,000 employees worldwide produce forged parts and components for the automotive industry and its system suppliers. At our plant in Columbus, Ohio/USA more than 300 employees manufacture automotive parts in large-series production by means of forging and machining.

 

 

General responsibilities

  • Adherence to federal and local law regulations, internal policies and other applicable rules including ISO/TS 16949, ISO 18001 and ISO 18001 requirements
  • Continuous improvement of work and activities
  • Compliance with the corporate mission statement
  • Cooperation with other people in spirit of mutual respect
  • Fulfilling thoroughly all tasks within the scope of defined qualifications and responsibilities
  • Represent the company in professional and respectful manner
  • Maintaining confidentiality of proprietary information
  • Project management (internal and international)
  • Adherence to 5S principles

 

S              Specific responsibilities:

  • Development of new products under tight timing constraints. Project manager for new projects. APQP leader internally and externally.
  • Optimizing product and process parameters
  • Product support for technical development of new parts (inquiries), changes and trails under the consideration of part quantity, costs and schedule from new parts
  • Technical customer communication and support as well as some sales calls to new or existing customers
  • Documents changes needed and communicates back to design departments internally or to the parent plant
  • Works closely with production, die shop, die prep and billet prep departments
  • responsible for providing, coordinating and maintaining SAP master data for new products
  • Leading trials and experiments
  • Performs all duties deemed necessary by superior

 

Experience:

Several years of respective work experience

Technical knowledge:

  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office applications and SAP)
  • Project Management Skills
  • Must have tooling, design and quality knowledge
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Have a good understanding of metal forming FEA, 3D CAD and GD&T
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Good leadership and project management skills
  • Must be flexible in working with various levels of management
