About the Role

 

The purpose of this position is to develop and maintain manufacturing processes / products in a cost effective manner that meets or exceeds customer requirements.  This individual leads and coordinates process improvements for existing products and internal functions that are developed to enhance quality and efficiency of processes.

 

Under minimal supervision, analyzes engineering design documents and/or prototypes and makes recommendation concerning required methods, processes, tools, jigs, fixtures, etc., which are required to manufacture a product. May also route, schedule and follow up on special orders.

 

Responsibilities

 

•  Adherence to federal and local law regulations, internal policies and other applicable rules    including IATF 16949, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements

•  CNC Programming and Troubleshooting

•  Assist in design changes

•  Develop Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions for processes

•  Monitor efficiencies losses due to process issues and drive optimization using Structured Problem Solving. 

•  Support the plant’s 5S and lean manufacturing goals and support plant safety initiatives.

•  Support the timely implementation of process changes related to capital improvement projects.

•  Set expectations of product performance and characteristics.

•  Provide engineering support for the startup of new equipment and processes.

•  Troubleshoot when manual or automated processes are not performing to expectations.

•  Develop training documents for operator training.

•  Define machine setup, changeover standards and setup scripts. 

•  Leads or participates in continuous improvement projects and activities.

•  Perform cost and manufacturability analysis with the aim to reduce costs, improve quality and increase efficiency by improving manufacturing processes and methods.

•  Analyse production data to find process issues and drive improvements with proper Structured Problem Solving.

•  Analyse scrap data provided by the floor and take action on regular basis to reduce scrap

•  Use proper problem solving tools to improve cost 

•  Report monthly analysis on scrap and process improvements projects.

•  Coordinate with tooling vendors, design tooling and attachments required for specific applications to improve tool costs.

•  Investigate design proposals for improving new or existing equipment performance to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.

•  Support off shifts remotely as applicable.

•  Lead APQP efforts with new product development team and current production programs as assigned

•  Training of workforce (lead techs and supervision)

•  Development of new production processes

•  Development of Q-plans together with the corresponding team

•  Development of work and set-up rules

 

Technical knowledge: 

 

•  Strong project management skills

•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

•  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

•  Strong analytical and problem solving skills

•  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

•  GD&T Standards preferable

•  Experience with CAD / CAM recommended

•  CNC knowledge (ISO programming required)

•  SPC knowledge (basics)

•  Knowledge of Lean Concepts

•  SAP knowledge preferable

 

Education/training/certification: 

 

5+ years of relevant CNC Machining experience or Bachelor (B.S.) or Masters (M.S.) in Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Engineering or equivalent field   5.2)   

 

Location & Commitments

 

• Monday – Friday, Onsite Columbus OH

• Permanent, Full Time, Second Shift 3:00 pm -11:15 pm (40 hour)

• Overtime, Alternate shifts, and Weekends may be necessary for business needs.
